dc.description.abstractThis study assessed the impact of participatory Monitoring and sustainability of a water source in Buikwe District, aiming to understand how the effectiveness of community engagement strategies on the sustainability of water sources, using quantitative data from 305 respondents, the study whether community engagement strategies affect sustainability of the water source, A regression analysis revealed that community engagement strategies moderately impact the sustainability of a water source (β = .689, t = 16.56, p < .001) which show the importance of involvement of the people in the sustainability of the water source. Further analysis examined the influence of participatory decision-making processes on the sustainability of water sources, regression analysis was carried out and revealed that participatory decision making has a strong positive effect on sustainability of a water source (β = .708, p < .001). Additionally, the analysis assessed the moderating role of culture on the relationship between participatory Monitoring and the sustainability of water sources, the regression revealed that the role of culture emerged as a strong predictor for the sustainability of the water source that is community engagement strategies and participatory decision making alone aren’t viable to sustain a water source (R² = .629, F (3,301) = p < .001). Based on the findings of the study recommends that there should be a strong community capacity in water source Monitoring , an increased community sensitization on ownership and responsibility and also enhance the local governance support and supervision of the water source in Buikwe district.
