The study examined foreign military interventions in conflicts in neighboring states and regional effects: a case of Uganda and Rwanda’s military interventions in the DRC. The study was guided by the following objectives; To analyze the effect of Uganda’s and Rwanda’s Military Interventions on Regional Stability and Security in the East African region, To explore economic Consequences of Uganda’s and Rwanda’s Military Interventions in the East African region and To examine long-term Implications of Uganda’s and Rwanda’s Interventions in the DRC for the conflict perpetuity or cessation and regional alliances. The research adopted a descriptive research design and a qualitative research approach was employed to gain deeper insights and understand the complex dynamics of military interventions and their ramifications. The sample size was not determined by statistical power, but rather by the principle of saturation, the sample size was 31 provided by Morgan (1997). Snowball, Purposive and Expert sampling techniques were used to select the respondents for participation. Data was primarily collected through semi-structured interviews and focus group discussions guided by focus group protocols and pilot-tested. The results indicated that the interventions by Uganda and Rwanda created a semblance of order in eastern DRC, limiting the ability of armed groups to operate freely and reducing cross-border incursions. While the interventions helped curtail some rebel activity, they also triggered new cycles of violence as some groups were pushed deeper into the DRC or dispersed into neighboring countries. The interventions have heightened security concerns at our borders due to the movement of armed groups and refugees. Impact on Regional Security: limited the operations of armed groups like the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) and reducing cross-border incursions. Cross-Border Security Issues: The movement of armed groups and refugees across borders heightened security concerns in neighboring countries. Regional Stability (In)stability: interventions' contribution to regional stability were mixed. Some viewed the military actions as providing a security buffer that helped stabilize the region temporarily. Expansion of Local Investments Rwandan and Ugandan companies have expanded their investments in the Eastern DRC, often operating through informal networks and partnerships with local militias. Reshaping of Alliances: The interventions have polarized regional alliances, creating competing blocs and making it challenging for regional organizations like the International Conference on the East African Region (ICGLR) to achieve consensus on security issues Regional Security Arrangements and New Alliances: neighboring states have sought new security partnerships to counter perceived threats, leading to increased military cooperation between some states while sidelining others. The study recommended the promotion of dialogue and mediation efforts among all stakeholders, including feasible interactions with rebel groups. Implementing community engagement programs that involve local leaders and populations in the peace building process is also recommended to help rebuild trust and reconcile communities. Special focus should be placed on securing and regulating mining areas. The study suggests the implementation of community-based monitoring systems, supported by international bodies, improving infrastructure and security in the transport and logistics sectors will reduce costs and delays in goods movement, bolstering the overall economic stability.
