Abstract
The study was about transport management practices and service delivery of logistics companies in South Sudan, focusing on PG3 Logistics-South Sudan as a case study. The focused on three specific objectives: To examine how fleet management enhances the service delivery of PG3 Logistics–South Sudan; to assess how route planning and optimization affect the service delivery of PG3 Logistics-South Sudan, and to determine how automated Transport Management Systems (TMS) are used to enhance service delivery of PG3 Logistics-South Sudan.
The study employed mixed method research design where both qualitative and quantitative data collection techniques employed. Neumann's algorithm was used to select a sample of 67 participants from a population of 80 staff members of PG3 Logistics-South Sudan, but only 60 respondents returned questionnaires for analysis. The study also focused on 7 respondents who were interviewed and 60 questionnaires collected for analysis. Data was examined using both descriptive and inferential statistics, including ANOVA, Pearson correlation, and model summaries for regression analysis.
The multiple regression results (R=.784, P<0.005).revealed that there is a positive and significant relationship between transport management practices and service delivery of logistics companies of PG3 Logistics-South Sudan. The findings show a positive and significant correlation between fleet management, route planning and optimization, automated TMSs and service delivery in PG3 logistics-South Sudan. This reveals that transport management is the backbone of service delivery in PG3 Logistics. By enhancing system utilization, improving fleet maintenance, and adopting cost-control measures, PG3 Logistics can significantly improve reliability, reduce costs, and enhance customer satisfaction.
The study concludes that effective fleet management plays a central role in enhancing the service delivery of PG3 Logistics in South Sudan. Efficient route planning enables the company to minimize delivery times, reduce fuel consumption, and ensure that goods are delivered on schedule and in good condition. Automated Transport Management Systems (TMS) has significantly enhanced the service delivery of PG3 Logistics in South Sudan. By automating critical logistics functions such as order management, shipment planning, route optimization, and documentation, TMS reduces manual errors, improves operational efficiency, and ensures that goods are delivered on time and in good condition.
The study recommends that PG3 Logistics in South Sudan should consistently assess delivery demand to ensure that the fleet aligns with operational requirements, organize vehicle schedules effectively to reduce idle time and enhance productivity, and perform regular inspections and maintenance to decrease vehicle failures. The study also recommends that PG3 Logistics-South Sudan should adopt a comprehensive TMS that oversees order processing, shipment planning, route optimization, and documentation.
