Abstract

The study examined the relationship between workplace conditions and employee productivity MRC, Entebbe Station. Specifically, the study aimed to assess the relationship between the physical environment and employee productivity MRC, Entebbe Station, to analyse the relationship between social dynamics and employee productivity MRC, Entebbe Station and establish the relationship between managerial support and employee productivity MRC, Entebbe Station. This study used a cross-sectional survey design and employed both quantitative and qualitative approaches. The target population for this study included top administrators, HR officers, heads of sections, supervisors and operational staff totaling 90 from which a sample size of 73 respondents was selected using purposive and simple random sampling techniques. Data was collected using self-administered questionnaires and interview guide for the quantitative and qualitative approaches respectively. The regression results showed that physical environment was the most predictor of employee productivity with a Beta value of .427 which is higher than that of social dynamics and managerial support at β=.308 and β=.182 respectively. The study concluded that while managerial support exists within the MRC, Entebbe Station contribute positively to employee productivity, its effectiveness is uneven and partial hence the limited effect. It was also concluded that employees’ efficiency, focus, and overall performance are closely linked to the quality of their immediate surroundings, including workspace layout, lighting, ventilation, and facility maintenance. The study also concluded that positive interactions among colleagues, effective teamwork, open idea-sharing, and a sense of belonging appear to enhance collaboration, engagement, and collective problem-solving within the station. It was recommended that the facilities department should assess and optimize workspace layouts, including desk arrangements and common areas, to promote better collaboration and reduce congestion, thereby enhancing employees’ ability to perform detailed and team-based tasks effectively. The study also recommended that the station management at MRC, Entebbe should organize team-building activities and collaborative workshops to strengthen interpersonal relationships and foster a culture of cooperation among employees. It was suggested that human resource managers should implement formal recognition programs that acknowledge employees’ achievements and contributions, reinforcing motivation and enhancing engagement with their roles
