Abstract

This study examined the effect of time management practices on organisational performance in the private sector, focusing on Wagagai Ltd., a leading floriculture company in Uganda. the research was driven by three specific objectives: to analyze the effect of employee structured work schedules on organisational performance of Wagagai Ltd, to evaluate the effect of regular employee training sessions on organisational performance of Wagagai Ltd and to assess the effect of time tracking tools for employees on organisational performance of Wagagai Ltd. The study was guided by Time Management Theory founded by Macan (1994) and Goal-Setting Theory developed by Locke & Latham (1990). A case study strategy with mixed-methods approach was employed, adopting a case study design. The target population comprised 365 individuals from seven key departments, with a sample size of 191 determined using Krejcie and Morgan’s table. Simple random sampling was used for operational staff, while purposive sampling targeted key informants and census sampling for management. Data was collected through self-administered questionnaires, semi-structured interviews, and documentary review. Quantitative data was analysed using SPSS version 25, employing descriptive statistics and multiple regression analysis, while qualitative data were thematically analysed. Regression results revealed that structured work schedules (β = 0.684, p < 0.00), regular employee training sessions (β = 0.496, p < 0.00), and time tracking tools (β = 0.702, p < 0.00). This indicates that improvements in these time management practices positively affected performance of Wagagai Ltd. The study concluded that time tracking tools were a critical driver of organisational performance followed by well-structured schedules reduced workflow delays, training sessions enhance skillsets and adaptability, and time tracking tools improve accountability and resource allocation. It was recommended that Wagagai Ltd should: strengthen enforcement of structured shift schedules; institutionalise continuous, role-specific training programs; and integrate advanced digital time tracking systems with performance analytics. Adoption of these measures will likely improve productivity, reduce operational costs, and enhance the company’s competitive edge in the global floriculture market.
