Abstract
The study examined the influence of counter-terrorism policy on national security provision in Mogadishu, Somalia. Guided by Ecological Systems Theory, the research aimed to investigate the relationships between anti-terrorism legislation, surveillance and intelligence gathering, and enhanced law enforcement policies in relation to national security.
The study adapted a mixed-method approach was employed, incorporating both qualitative and quantitative data collection methods. The sample comprised 248 respondents selected using stratified random sampling, including CID officers, NISA officers, police officers, and community members. Quantitative data were analyzed using SPSS software, while qualitative insights were gathered through semi-structured interviews.
The findings revealed that 94.4% of respondents believed counter-terrorism efforts significantly influenced national security provision, with many indicating a strong correlation between intelligence data collection and security outcomes. Specifically, the utilization of intelligence in investigations received positive affirmation from 96.6% of participants. The study concluded that counter-terrorism policies notably enhance national security in Mogadishu through improved intelligence sharing and law enforcement strategies.
Based on the results, the study recommended establishing mechanisms for better intelligence sharing among security forces and employing advanced surveillance technologies to bolster security efforts.
The research contributes to the broader literature on national security provision by highlighting the specific challenges faced by Somalia and proposing practical solutions for policymakers, counter terrorism agencies, and community stakeholders. By addressing the identified gaps and leveraging the findings, Somalia can work towards building a more secure and stable environment, ultimately fostering national growth and development.
